Cameron Saffle: From Division I Football to Actor and Culinary Producer

Sometimes, life can take different paths, and Cameron Saffle knows something about this. He went from playing college football to finding a completely different path in entertainment, and even then, his career varied.

Although many actors are finding their places in the vertical drama space, some are just trying out their talents in the genre before moving on. Cameron Saffle started building a resume in acting after his retirement from football.

With one micro-drama to his name, a short online series, a music video appearance, and a few other projects, his acting future looked bright. However, his life nowadays is much different, but he seems pretty satisfied. Let’s learn more about him and his career.

Getting to Know Cameron Saffle

As a former promising Division I college football player, Saffle was set on a path to the NFL, but he announced his medical retirement in 2018. Despite this, he continued studying at UC Berkeley and decided to become an entertainer.

In a 2022 interview with Session Magazine, he said, “During the beginning of my junior year at UC Berkeley, I had to abruptly end my career due to yet another surgery-needing knee injury. Coming to accept that this was truly the end of my life as I knew it (any retiring athlete will feel me on this one) was one of the harder [sic] things I’ve had to overcome in my life.”

Fortunately, he got to explore other passions. In 2020, he moved to Los Angeles and, for a while, interned with comedian Kevin Hart while receiving acting training from Lesly Kahn.

In 2021, Saffle appeared in Doja Cat’s “Need to Know” music video. Back then, Saffle didn’t even know much about the singer, but he accepted the part and loved the experience.

“I was sort of glad I didn’t know how big Doja was at the time, because I got to know her as Amala, an incredibly gifted and down-to-earth artist,” he said, adding that he hoped to work with her again.

Saffle believes that his football run served him in acting because he could easily take constructive criticism, something he got daily while playing. Although his energy led him to be cast in mostly comedies, he hoped for more serious opportunities.

“I would love to be part of a biopic or timepiece at some point. I always find time pieces super enjoyable. I would also love to take on a role that requires some sort of body transformation – I feel like those are always a huge challenge for actors, and I’d love to take on that challenge,” Saffle explained

That’s why he admired actors like Hart, The Rock, and Will Smith, who all started in one place and were able to develop their skills towards portraying other kinds of characters as well as be involved in different aspects of entertainment productions.

Saffle also did more than just acting. He worked on voice acting, modeling, and producing, and in 2022, he had plans to start a food business. Still, that same year, he was seen in a small role in HBO’s “Westworld.”

“I was in a scene with Aaron Paul, Tessa Thompson and Thandie Newton. So, there was an element of not wanting to [expletive] up! The element of doing stunts for the first time and ultimately just wanting to make sure all the moments that needed to be hit were done perfectly,” he told Session while speaking about his most challenging projects.

During the interview, Saffle also revealed that he has been mistaken with Jacob Elordi and that in his spare time, he loves to dedicate himself to his passions for cooking and baking, learning languages, particularly Greek, because it’s his girlfriend’s home country, and studying online.

At the time, he was even signed with several modeling agencies and was looking forward to furthering his career.

Cameron Saffle’s Vertical Drama

Saffle appeared on the micro-drama “The CEO’s Contract Wife,” playing the male main character, Jasper Tate, who gets fired from his family’s business by his grandfather. In order to get his job back, he has to get married and have a child.

Therefore, he signs a deal with Khloe Adams, a woman in desperate need of money for her sister’s medical bills. But they agree to avoid intimacy and feelings. Yet, one night in his bed changes everything.

Unfortunately, this is Saffle’s only vertical micro-drama. He was in a short series, “Trauma Bonded” in 2023, which is available on YouTube and a couple of other projects, but his life seemingly took a completely different path, where he finally made his culinary dreams come true.

Cameron Saffle’s Current Career

For a while, Saffle was an event coordinator for the lifestyle brand Willbo, then a recipe taster for Vitco Foods, followed by being a production coordinator for Care of Chan and later an assistant producer for Vector Media.

According to his LinkedIn, Saffle is now the head of brand for CARVINGBLOCK, a marketing agency. “We curate hospitality communications. Telling the stories that set the table for the world to gather,” reads its overview.

He even collaborated with Willbo and CARVINGBLOCK to showcase his cooking and talk about what he and his team do in the LA area. Therefore, it looks like his career in vertical dramas won’t go further, but the future is unpredictable.
